Do Now 11/30

In my life, I've met so many different people. Some have come and go, some have stuck with me for a chunk of my life. There isn't necessarily three specific people who have impacted me the most, but there are three GROUPS of people who have. Those three groups are parents, siblings, and friends. This is because these three groups have stuck with me for most of my life and have impacted me so much.
Celebrating Thanksgiving every single year happens to be a family tradition. If I were to pick one specific Thanksgiving and title it my best, it would be the Thanksgiving when I was 8-years old. This is because this was the first year that I went down to Miami, Florida for Thanksgiving to celebrate with my uncle and cousin. It was extremely fun and there was so much more of a variety of foods that year.
Some traditions in my family are travelling to Thanksgiving. With schools being closed for multiple days, my family chooses to take advantage of that time to give thanks to other relatives in the family. On very rare years, such as this year, my family sometimes chooses to stay home for Thanksgiving. When we're home for Thanksgiving, we usually tend to start Christmas decorating. This includes decorating outside and setting up the Christmas tree.

Technology Article 11/13

Ever hated going to the doctor for blood tests because of painful needles? Well, worry no more! Companies Intermountain Health Care and Velano Vascular are currently working on needle-free blood draw technology. Here's some information about it:

    • To be tested at Utah hospitals
    • Velano co-founder Eric Stone says this needle-free technology can "reduce the pin-cushion effect"
    • Eric Stone also says it is a "single-use, disposal medical device"
    • Multiple pricks can lead to bruising, making it difficult to find a vein and leading it to more sticks. This technology plans on not having to be pricked more than once.
    • The companies plan on using this technology globally once finished.

Do Now 11/9

During this four day break, I didn't do too much. For a whole chunk of the nice break, most of it relied on playing video games. One of the games I played was this interesting game called Audiosurf 2. You're able to play your own music in a game format where you're able to dodge spikes and collect the orbs to raise your points! The game even speeds up and slows down based on the tempo of the song.
In addition, I spent a lot of my day watching YouTube videos from a bunch of interesting channels such as gaming channel Chris Smoove, film maker and traveler Casey Neistat, and cool videos from The Slow Mo Guys. These channels are so interesting to watch because they all bring in their favorite hobbies into a video format that is fun for people searching through the internet to watch.

Educational Technology and Copyright Law

On Mark Brumley's article in TeachAmazing!, it explains very clearly the purpose of copyrighting work and how to use a copyrighted file correctly. This article is very informational, as I've learned many things such as:

  • You don't need to file for copyrighting. As soon as you create something, it's already copyrighted!.
  • When you create your copyrighted work, you will now be able to reproduce it, display it publicly, distribute your work and gain profit.
  • The copyright law states that you're allowed to use it for criticism, commenting, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. This means teachers are still able to use someone's work for an educational purpose.
  • Factors in determining if you used the work fairly includes the purpose of the use and the potential value in it.
  • Websites like iStockPhoto makes you have to buy a license to use the photo and Flickr Creative Commons' license states that you have to give credit to the author when you use it.
